Fairford

Hello!
I made it to Fairford about a week ago. It's been a crazy trip - almost doesn't seem real. I landed at 6:35 am last Monday. We then hung out in the airport for about 5 hours... and I was very tired. Hardly slept on the plane - now I know why people pay for first class tickets when flying overseas! Basically we went to ASDA - Wal-Mart of Europe - to buy some things and then we came back here and saw a little bit of the base and then put our things away. I was exhausted. However, I definitely fell asleep that night and have been okay ever since! Weird food fact - they do not put their eggs in the fridge and the Mexican food does not taste like Mexican food. Also, kebabs are put into pita shells - not served on a stick like in America.

The next few days we trained at the child development center. I was able to visit all of the rooms. It looks like I found a home in the infant room. They're adorable! I really love working with those kids. We also worked with the teens at the youth center. Played a lot of charades. Not my best game - but the kids loved it. There are not many kids at our base because of it closing down. However, this still need all the love and attention a big group would need - especially while parents are figuring out moving plans and stressing out. It's been great so far.

I went to Oxford on Friday. We didn't see any of the sites - so, I have to go back. We did the whole shopping thing - or if you're like me - window shopping. Fashions are completely different here... I have never seen so many people wear legging pants at one time! 9 out of 10 women will be wearing leggings as pants. And it's cold here - so, I don't really get that. Big, long sweaters with gawdy pictures are in. The 80's are back in style. So much neon, leg warmers, big funky jewelry. Leotards are everywhere too. I don't know - guess I need a lesson in fashion!

Today was church. It was nice to go to the chapel on base and meet a few more people. With 100 people on base - they seem to know exactly who we are, but we do not know who they are. So, it's been an adventure just meeting people and figuring out how to get to places and stuff. It'll be a great experience. Sometimes I need to remind myself of that - but I know God is watching out for me. I will continue to make good decisions and walk in His light. He's guiding me.

I have my address, as well. I'm trying to update Facebook, but there hasn't been much to update about yet. So, we'll see some pictures after this weekend hopefully.

Miss you all!

Five days...

I officially leave in 5 days! This is so crazy. I haven't started packing, but I probably should do that.

I'm looking forward to this exciting adventure. I know God has a lot in store. I'm sure it will be challenging too.

I don't have much to write... it's just the beginning!

A few months to go...

I'll be going to Great Britain in a few months. I am quite excited, but it almost doesn't seem real yet. It'll be here before I know it!
